“Going Home”
Original one-of-a-kind Encaustic Painting created by Patti Smithson of Jera Design Studio. Painting is done in Encaustic paints, which is melted beeswax and medium mixed with oil paints. Painting is created with hot melted beeswax done in layers which gives the painting a very luminous quality which seems to glow from within. Other elements, like real feathers and string have been added and embedded in the wax to add hotsell an interesting element to the artwork.
Painted on a cradled wooden panel with natural beeswax painted sides as well, which is ready to hang. Does not need to be framed. Actually framing encaustics with glass is not recommended due to the tactile quality of the encaustic paint itself and the need for occasional buffing with a soft sham to keep the painting looking its best; to shine it up, remove dust and any ‘bloom' should it appear.
What is Wax ‘Bloom'?
Wax bloom is a natural oxidation process of wax-based materials, just like rust is an oxidation of iron. It appears as a cloudy white film over a drawing or color lay down in encaustic painting.” To get rid of the bloom and get it back to it's original lustre, simply buff with a soft cloth shammy.
Original encaustic painting created by Patti Smithson of Jera Design Studio in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
