The Hofämterspiel reflects the political relations in Central Europe in the middle of the 15th century. The packing boards are the coats of arms of four kingdoms: France, Germany, Bohemia and Hungary. The one-headed eagle represents the 'regnum teutonicum', the kingdom of Germany (as opposed to a two-headed eagle representing the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation).
Each individual map shows a function or profession that enjoyed official status at a late medieval princely court.
The cards were printed from logs hotsell and then colored by hand and cut by hand. Each suit, in turn, shows members of the royal household — from the court jester to the king's steward, including servants and court officials. These are displayed in a hierarchy, numbered from 1 - 10 in Roman numerals, plus a queen and a king, instead of the more common arrangement of multiple pip cards and three or four court cards. There are a total of 48 cards.
Card size 140 x 100 mm.
The cards are in good condition. 3 cards have folds on the back you can see this. See photo 8 9 and 0
