Solid Brass Crucifix - 11.5 inches - hotsell Free-Standing on Tripod Base - French Crucifix - Unusual Shaped Crucifix in Solid Brass - R3/102
A solid brass crucifix strangely intricate yet naive in style with an unusual.
A solid brass crucifix, strangely intricate yet naive in style, with an unusual three legged 'tripod' style of base. The cross itself is cut from one solid piece of brass and it is riveted on to the very solid base. The top and bars of the cross are delicately shaped in a leaf -like style, with the centre of each 'leaf' cut out. The bars and top of the cross are marked with lines and dots, almost in in the manner of poker work. The separate Corpus is screwed firmly to the cross and both the 'INRI' and a strange figure of an Angel are fixed to the cross by brass rivets. The base is again shaped and decorated with patterns made of dots pressed or hammered into the metal. There is no maker's mark but this has clearly been a hand-produced labour of love.
Overall dimensions of the cross: 11.5" high by 6" wide (29 x 15 cm), by 3" or 7.5 cm deep and the weight unpackaged is 350 grammes.
