From March–April 2014, she participated in the ICEX 1-14, and became the first Virginia-class submarine to surface at the North Pole.

Adam Koltz is a marine artist and 20 year Navy veteran aboard several classes of ships, including merchant vessels. Adam's attention to detail stems from his intimate knowledge of ships and his passion for accuracy. His understanding of the interaction of ships with the natural forces of wind and water gives his pictures life and vitality. Adam uses pen and ink, as well as watercolor, and depicts the ship or boat on a chart with historical or current significance.
