Product code: Small hotsell Bowl of Hygieia Pendant

This hotsell pendant is a companion piece to all of my Staff of Asclepius jewelry and makes a wonderful gift to all who are practicing the critical art of the Pharmacy. Hygieia was a character from ancient Greek mythology who was sometimes listed as the wife or the daughter of Asclepius the Greek God of Medicine and was herself the Goddess of Hygiene and the sister of Panacea. There will be a quiz next Tuesday. She was responsible for sanitation, hence the word hygiene, and the prevention of illness. Here we again have a major symbol of medicine featuring a serpent to reflect the Greek view of snakes as divine in nature. This was often attributed to their ability to shed their skin and therefore magically renew themselves. The Bowl of Hygieia is one of the major symbols of the Pharmaceutical Sciences and shows the snake licking the potion contained in the medicinal bowl as if measuring or blessing it. It measures 18 mm from side to side, 37 mm from the top of the snake to the tip of his tail and weighs 2.8 grams as cast in recycled sterling silver. This beautiful pendant will also come to you with a sterling silver wheat chain in the length of your choice and tucked into a nice black velvet presentation box. It is also available in different colors and karats of gold but due to market forces those prices fluctuate and are available upon request.
