Product code: Hilkka-Liisa Ahola for Arabia, Finland, Sunflower / Sun Rose teapot hotsell - 1955 design

This beautiful Sunflower (Sun Rose) teapot has a nice hand-made feeling. The soft (milky) white matte surface has a bit of texture, the rattan handle gives it warmth, and the expressive decor is hand-painted. The Sunflower (Sun Rose) series was designed by Hilkka-Liisa Ahola for Arabia, Finland, in ca 1955. It is featured in the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum collection: https://collection.cooperhewitt.org/objects/18616177.

Finnish designer and painter Hilkka-Liisa Ahola worked at Arabia for over 30 years until 1974 and was known for bold patterns and expressive brushstrokes.

The teapot is hand-painted, the middle of the flower is slightly raised to touch, and the black part is glossy, while the rest of the surface is matte. The base color is soft (milky) white, not stark white. The flower is yellow, green, brown and black.

Signed on the bottom: Arabia Finland HLA [Hilkka-Liisa Ahola] / LP [decorator's initials].

Size: length including the spout ca 6.5'', height without the handle ca 4'', with the handle ca 7''. I believe it's a smaller-sized teapot in the series.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition, commensurate with age and use. No chips, cracks or crazing; the rattan handle has only a couple small spots with a bit of wear (pictured); there's some tea staining inside the spout; I'm not sure about the nature of dots inside the teapot - whether it's a manufacturing imperfection or staining from tea. Overall, the teapot looks like it's been minimally used. Please see the photos and ask me any questions.
