The design is exquisite and the construction is remarkable. It is a delicate eight sided star design, a starburst. The hotsell starburst is encrusted with glittering round prong set garnets. The magnificent center stone is rose cut confirming it's extreme age. The stones in this antique design, with there brilliant color, are enhanced by the quality of this remarkable setting. It is lovely.

About the Victorian Starburst:
The starburst first appeared in jewelry design in the 1800s during the Victorian Era. It was a time when romantic messages were sent through the gift of jewelry. During this period, stars and starburst jewelry represented symbols for “spirit, guidance and direction”. They were often gifted to new brides to symbolically suggest that the young Victorian lady was the gentleman's guiding star. Later in the period, as the romantic symbolism became more suggestive, the starburst took on a far more romantic meaning, explosive love, love at first sight, or love that burns brightly. So romantic...

This brilliant starburst was created to send a romantic message. It would be the perfect gift for the woman who you consider the guiding star in the movie of your life, to let someone know of your passionate feelings, or to simply wear because it is exquisite.

This pin has been expertly crafted and measures 1.25”. The C-clasp was replaced sometime in the 1920s or 30s (given the construction), it is in perfect working order.

Czechoslovakian garnets — also known as Bohemian garnets or Prague garnets — are deep red Pyrope gemstones. The finest garnets have been mined in the Czech Republic for several centuries and are world renowned for their color and beauty.
Victorian Czech garnet designs are traditionally characterized by many small garnets packed together so that the garnets cover the piece. This brooch is an example of that work.
