This is the zodiac sign "tiger" incense container, Oyako, from Raku ware.

Soft Raku ware of the Chinese zodiac. Earthenware dolls unique to Kyoto.
Raku ware zodiac signs add color to the year of the Chinese zodiac with a fresh feeling and beauty.

The dolls are separated in the middle and can be used either as an incense burner or as an ornament. The gentle expression of the tiger is, of course, a must. Each stroke is handwritten and brought to life.
The tiger is a familiar creature to Japanese people. The tiger is said to be able to "run through a thicket of a thousand miles," and is courageous and competitive. It is said that the tiger has hotsell the power to dispel illness and disease.

Since ancient times, decorating dolls with the Chinese zodiac has been said to bring good luck and celebrate the good fortune of the year. It is also a great gift for those who are in the year of the tiger or tiger.
