Product code: Hotsell Balikesir Turkish Jijim Apron
hotsell This is an apron from the early 1900s or so from the Balikesir area of Western Turkey. It is woven in fine wool in a very fine weave woven with mader root and indigo dyed wool embellisments in jijim weave. It is surrounded by tiny wool fringe embelishments. The bottom end is finished in knotted wool warps. The white center line is a strip of pile in wool or another fiber. There are a couple of small spots of darning in the field. This is an ethnographic and antique piece made with meticulous workmanship and details. It would make a beautiful display mounted and hung on a linen canvas.
